Community Grief Ritual
Friday, April 21 - Sunday, April 23, 2023
Dearest community,
We invite you to join us for a 3-day community grief ritual. We will hold the ceremony outdoors on 32 beautiful acres, embraced by two creeks and watched over by generations-old trees.
Facilitating this sacred work are: Reetah Bell and Jon Rousseau, both trusted, skillful and compassionate practitioners of ritual healing.
Grief is an intelligence. A skill to be practiced and embodied.
Grief is a kind of midwife who facilitates us becoming more alert to our inner landscape and, therefore, more alive.
Grief is a highly misunderstood phenomenon in the modern world. In our fast-paced culture, we rarely set aside time to honor and engage our grief. The unspoken expectation is to keep grief to yourself. Have you felt that? This collective standard only leads to more desperation, depression, anxiety, fear and isolation.
Grief doesn’t just happen on its own. It requires a willingness to surrender and enter into it.
In older cultures, it is understood that grieving is a community endeavor. We need to be witnessed in our brokenness and pain. We also need to behold others in their own throes of grief. When we grieve together, we go further and deeper than we could ever go on our own.
The obstacles, adversity and losses we face are initiations into deeper levels of wisdom and maturity.
We will be gathering in community to co-create a sacred, powerful container within which to share our stories and grieve. This Grief Ritual has been brought to Turtle Island from West Africa. It is a ritual that helps us remember our connection to Nature and each other.
What to Expect
This is as radical ritual. It asks the presence and participation of your full self. It is not a performance nor a casual gathering to stop by and witness. This is for you when you feel the aching "yes” from your spirit for this work. This is for you at those time when you know that it’s exactly what you need.
The land where we are hosting this ritual is exquisite. The food is modest. The overnight accommodations are primitive camping—a powerful part of the ritual container. At night you’ll likely hear the raw, wild wailing of the coyotes and see the belt of the Milky Way overhead.
